My work with clay engages the deep and broad historical territory of the vessel form. The
degree to which the work is recognizable allows it to be symbolic.
As a signifier, I intend the work to be pan-cultural rather than culturally specific. With ceramic
vessels that is sometimes complicated. During the process of making, little is predetermined
or by design. My creative attention oscillates between the intuitive, the unconscious, and of
course the known. I pay close attention to material behavior from liquid to solid and act
accordingly.
Clay is transformational and phenomenological. Chance and the unexpected are encouraged.
It feels important to risk utter failure in every work I make.
My vessels are elemental. I want them to embody the vestiges of something important that has been lost. They are physical, haptic, visceral, and impolite, they protest civilized behavior
and polite society aesthetics. Each work becomes what it needs to become, whether
excessive or base. In the contemporary language of ceramic vessels, my intentions are to be
disruptive. As much as I make the work, the work shapes me.

The studio works of Gaetano Pesce are handmade by the artist in New York City where he has been living and working since the 1980s. This selection of vessels ranges from the early 90’s up to recent works completed in January 2022 specifically for this exhibition.
Pesce’s practice is unexpected and imaginative, the design of the vase is impromptu as he pours the resin, guided by the texture and colors as it cures. This results in a direct translation of the artist’s thought process, so each vase is distinctly unique.

Los Angeles based artist Leena Similu’s ceramic-based sculptural work was conceived in reverence to her Bamiléké culture, along with the artist’s facial pareidolia, the works are a composite of her matriarchal lineage, the power of its unity and exploring her specific place in a long line of mothers before her.

Moulded by hand each vase is unique so expect some variation in form due to this process

LSG 450

CNC precision machined solid Aluminium table top with angled 9” wide tubular base.
The Snoopy table top is machined from a solid Aluminium billet, metal being milled away to create its bowled "catch-all” shape. The rear angle of the table top edge has been specifically cut to align perfectly with the base. The angled base and oval table top give the design a perspective which shifts as it is moved around - from some angles appearing perfectly uniform, but from others presenting its counter balanced nature. The table has been finished in a specialist textured black paint, with the top lip hand polished exposing an accent of the Aluminium underneath.
